How can we look at the world that passes before us today without knowing what we've left behind?, Friday 10 April 2026, the new edition of Portraits by experts – the classics that help you live. These are three appointments, under the direction of Gustavo Cecchini, where the classics of thought take centre stage, those texts that demonstrate incredible vitality, from which we should take inspiration for all forms of civil, cultural, and human resistance, to which we are called every day. Rereading a classic, therefore, means becoming aware of the reasons for this present and having the tools to understand it better and change it when the need arises.

Opening the review, on Friday 10th April, is the philosopher ADRIANA CAVARERO with an original reading titled: Who do the Sirens sing for? Modern portraits of an ancient myth.

Odysseus plugs his companions“ ears with soft wax and has himself tied to the ship's mast in order to enjoy the Sirens” song without dying. The Sirens, however, do not sing for him, nor do they wish to seduce him: they sing for their own pleasure, "one to another." In a compelling dialogue with Plato, Kafka, Brecht, Blanchot, Adorno, and Eliot, Adriana Cavarero challenges the traditional representation of the Sirens as primordial, enchanting, and dangerous beings, rethinking these mythical figures as free subjects, women who sing for themselves, enjoying their own voice and music as a shared experience that escapes the rigidities of the logos. Contrasting the Homeric paradigm of the cunning and victorious hero – who, according to some twentieth-century readings, has become a ridiculous little man – with a vision in which the female voice is harmonious and plural, Cavarero offers a new and subversive interpretation of a millennia-old myth, capable of restoring to the Sirens the still-unresolved mystery of their vocal power.

On the second date, Friday 17 April 2026, will take centre stage MASSIMO CACCIARI with a reading titled: Van Gogh. For a self-portrait.
«Van Gogh is almost always assimilated into the fundamental trends of contemporary art, but in reality, he is an absolute exception»: with these words, Massimo Cacciari will guide the public through Van Gogh's art. With numerous images of the artist's most iconic works, the philosopher will offer an original and evocative interpretation of the great painter's work and figure, tracing the emblematic words and language of one of art history's most beloved artists. It will be an intense encounter, capable of combining philosophical rigour and artistic sensitivity, through which Cacciari will accompany us on a journey of reflection on the essence of art, creative genius, and the inner turmoil that permeates Van Gogh's entire production, in a dialogue between thought and image, word and colour.
