On September 5th, Misano Bike, the Gran Fondo of Champions, will debut
A major sporting event will enrich the calendar of events scheduled for the Riviera di Rimini in September 2021: on Sunday 5th, the debut of ‘Misano Bike. The Champions' Gran Fondo’.
The event is dedicated to cycling enthusiasts, and now that the date is official, the countdown has begun for the organisation of the event promoted by the Municipality of Misano and the aMisano Foundation, with the strategic support of Misano World Circuit and Eurobike.
Misano Bike is dedicated to the large community of enthusiasts who fuel a significant tourism segment in the area. The event is hosted against a backdrop of an increasingly environmentally conscious offering, consolidated by a growing network of cycle paths.
Misano Bike is also following the lead of larger projects being undertaken by the Municipality concerning infrastructure, with initial checks relating to the feasibility study for a velodrome in Misano which would involve Santamonica SpA, the owner of Misano World Circuit.
The Gran Fondo dei Campioni also recalls a connection with Riders’ Land, because it will be held in the same month as MotoGP and because the riders themselves are generally passionate about cycling.
The same route identified will unite the two sports and foresees a passage through the iconic locations of Riders’ Land, primarily Misano World Circuit, Tavullia and Coriano. Motorsport riders will be invited to participate in the event as “Riders Land Ambassadors” and will consequently also become testimonials for Misano Bike.
MISANO BIKE. THE CHAMPIONS' GRAN FONDO
Departure at 7:30 on September 5th, and there will be two routes offered to cyclists, 125 km and 85 km.
Both the start and finish will be located in the circuit area: the cyclists will start from the Misano World Circuit straight and finish in the square in front of the football stadium, in Via del Carro.
The registration fees include a discount scale in the periods leading up to Misano Bike.
THE GREAT CYCLING RACE OF CHAMPIONS AIMS TO BECOME A TOURISM PRODUCT TOO
Just as happens with MotoGP; the event dedicated to cyclists also intends from the outset to create the conditions to attract tourists to the Riviera of Rimini.
Side events for children, organised in collaboration with the federation, are also planned from the preceding Friday, alongside social gatherings, conferences, and training sessions for industry professionals. This will also lead to the definition of ‘all-inclusive’ tourist packages in connection with other local entities.
Emilia-Romagna at the forefront of bike tourism
Emilia-Romagna is second in Italy for cycle tourism, with almost 500,000 bike tourist arrivals from all over the world, totalling around 1.5 million hotel stays.
The region boasts 8,000 km of roads, cycle paths and dirt tracks for cycling and mountain biking enthusiasts. For over 20 years, bike hotels have been established in the area, attracting a significant number of international visitors, including cycle tourists and families. Demand for e-bike tours has been growing over the last couple of years.
