FORMULA E: MISANO, THE NEW ITALIAN VENUE

OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED TODAY IN THE SEASON 10 CALENDAR

• Season 10 will be the longest-ever ABB FIA Formula E World Championship season after the FIA World Motor Sport Council today approved a calendar featuring 17 races across 11 global cities;
• The new Italian venue has been confirmed with a double-header event at the iconic Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, in Emilia-Romagna;
• Following the success of last season's opening race, Portland will become a double-header;
• Misano joins Tokyo and Shanghai as new Formula E race cities in Season 10.

LONDON, 22 November 2023 – Formula E today announced the full calendar for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship Season 10, which with its 17 races will be the longest ever held: both the Italian round, which will take place for the first time at the Misano World Circuit, and the double-header in Portland have been confirmed.

The FIA World Council today approved the addition of Misano to the Formula E calendar, making it the third new venue after Tokyo and Shanghai.

Formula E will feature a 17-race season for the first time and celebrate its tenth season as the world's first fully electric motorsport championship.

Season 10 News: Misano and Portland

The Misano circuit is located near the seaside resort of Rimini, in Emilia-Romagna, on the northern Adriatic coast. It is one of the most popular venues for the MotoGP World Championship and the home circuit of the legendary rider Valentino Rossi. The Italian round will take place in Misano on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April.

Andrea Abodi, the Italian Minister for Sport, and Stefano Bonaccini, President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, welcomed Formula E Co-founder and Chief Championship Officer, Alberto Longo, to formally announce the Championship's new Italian headquarters.

Andrea Abodi, Minister for Sport, stated: “Formula E is a great opportunity for our country and after years of wonderful experience in Rome, it will be in Misano in 2024. It is important that Italy responds in the best way possible, hosting an event that evokes sustainable mobility and has an extraordinary appeal. Engines are in the hearts of Italians, and we have learned to appreciate the whisper of these prodigious machines, which transmit signals of the future by delivering a legacy of cutting-edge technology.

Stefano Bonaccini, President of Emilia-Romagna, stated: “The choice of Misano for the Italian round of Formula E is another recognition of the extraordinary teamwork that has made Emilia-Romagna the Italian region with the highest number of sporting events in the country. In particular, in motorsports, this event is in addition to the return of Formula One to Imola and to MotoGP and Superbike, which already take place on the Romagna circuit. Congratulations to the organisers for this new milestone, which also sends a very important message beyond its sporting value: Formula E is the world's first ‘Zero Carbon’ sport and reminds us how the fight against climate change is the priority to address at this historical moment in every field.

The opening race at Portland International Raceway, during Season 9, was an experiment for Formula E, as it offered a wide and open track compared to the city circuits that remain the Championship's trademark. A success for fans, teams, and organisers alike: tickets sold out and the 22 drivers were able to showcase the potential of the GEN3 cars on a completely new track, achieving a record 403 overtakes across the 32 laps of the race.

Next season, Portland will host a double-header on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June, the penultimate race weekend of the season before the London final on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July.

Formula E supports Tokyo's Zero Emission Vehicle initiative

The 10th season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will commence in Mexico City on Saturday 13 January 2024, followed by races in Diriyah, Hyderabad, São Paulo, Tokyo, Misano, Monaco, Berlin, Shanghai, Portland, and London.

Next year, Formula E will make history as the first motorsport world championship to race in Tokyo, on the streets surrounding the Tokyo Big Sight convention centre, which is located on the city's waterfront. The Championship organisers and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government have worked together to bring the race to the city, in support of the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) initiative, which is part of the Zero Emission Tokyo strategy. The city has a climate action plan aiming to achieve zero emissions by 2050.

The all-electric single-seaters will race for the first time in Shanghai, at the Shanghai International Circuit, with a double-header on Saturday 25 May and Sunday 26 May 2024. The first Formula E race was held in Beijing on 13 September 2014, while Sanya and Hong Kong have hosted a total of seven races in China, the most recent in March 2019.
